Introduction to Pegasus

Pegasus is an open-source implementation of the DMTF CIM and WBEM standards. It is designed to be portable and highly modular.  It is coded in C++ so that it effectively translates the object concepts of the CIM objects into a programming model but still retains the speed and efficiency of a compiled language. Pegasus is designed to be inherently portable and builds and runs today on Linux, AIX, HP/UX, and NT.

Pegasus is intended to serve several roles including:

  • An effective base implementation on which other implementations could be built.

  • A production level implementation of the manageability architecture for interested platforms.

  • A test bed for prototyping and testing new standards and specifications in the CIM and WBEM world.

  • A test bed for testing CIM clients and Providers.

  • A working base for a set of standards being produced by the Open Group for interfaces within the Pegasus architecture.

Pegasus is sponsored by The Open Group.
